One of the first learnings by the IP Champions of the University labels that obtaining IP rights is fundamental to securing the commercial success of technologies that are outputs of research and other project development efforts in a number of disciplines.
As quoted by Dr. Leo C Rio, Head of the URS IPO and concurrent project staff of the IPTBM special project with DOST-PCAARD, awareness on IP rights can challenge creativity and productivity in every institution and could potentially help increase an institution’s market share.
This reasons the flaring enthusiasm of faculty members of the University in being engaged with the development of technology-related IEC materials, projects and various works with potential IPS that were applied and granted copyright as well as certification for Utility Model.
As for Vice-President Marites M. Rio, “Managing the intellectual property of the University is truly a great challenge among the prime movers in the name of IP, research enthusiasts and extension practitioners of the University to be more scholarly and practical in setting the directions relative to the conduct of research and extension projects that may be commercialized and transferred for the benefit of people and the society in general”.
Similarly, Dr. Nancy T. Pascual, University President, commended the performance of the IP Champions and congratulated everyone who accepted the challenge to embrace and prove by themselves the promises and beneficial advantages of Copyrighting, Patenting and Utility Model Registration.
The matrix below specified the details of the initial set of processed IECs and developed technologies that were filed and granted distinct certification:
