REV UP TO HONE TOMORROW’S LEADERS: DR. SERGIO LAUNCHES HIS 2ND BOOK AT URS

The University of Rizal System, in collaboration with the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and the University Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Office, spearheaded the book launch of Dr. Rommel P. Sergio, titled “UNBROKEN: Trials to Triumph (The Making of a Community Leader),” on March 28, 2023, at the Audio-Visual Education Center (AVEC), Morong Campus.

The program started with opening remarks by Dr. Jocelyn L. Gagalang, Director of the Office of Public Affairs, and was followed by the introduction of the author, led by Dr. Marites M. Rio, the Vice President for Research Development, Extension, and Production. To formally express their admiration for the author, the words of commendation were given by the Hon. Kathrine B. Robles, Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Baras; Prof. Silfa Napicol, former Chair of Psychology Department in DLSU-Dasmariñas; Ms. Janet Alfonso-Tirado, Class President, High School Classmate of Dr. Sergio in RTPI; and Ms. Jovette Morales, former Legacy Managing Director.

Before the program proceeded with the presentation and book signing, Dr. Mercedes F. Timtiman, former Dean and Professor; Dr. Valentina R. Catmunan, former Dean and Professor; Dr. Ricardo R. Ariston, Alumni Regent; Dr. Allan E. Conde, Vice President of Academic Affairs; Dr. Renato F. De Lemon, Vice President of Administration and Finance; and Dr. Nancy T. Pascual, University President, gave their short messages.

Dr. Rommel P. Sergio, aside from being the pride of the University of Rizal System, is also a community leader, multi-award-winning educator, book author, academic researcher, international speaker, associate dean, and a professor of management at the Canadian University of Dubai. He advocated for mental health awareness and is also a humanitarian. He spearheaded pro bono counseling programs to support overseas workers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and has established the Dr. Rommel Sergio Scholarship Foundation to support underprivileged college students.

In his book, he acknowledged Dr. Marites P. Rio, Vice President for Research and Development, Extension, and Production, and Dr. Leo C. Rio, Director of Production Services and Head of Intellectual Property Office, for making him realize the value of community service and selfless devotion to community work.

“Before you create a difference in the world, you must first learn how to be compassionate. The power to give is the ability to be kind.” This quote is just one of the remarkable messages that will pique the interest of every reader once the book is opened.

The event ended with closing remarks by Ms. Rennie Mae SG. De Lemon, Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.
