LUDIP Sets URS Sustainable Land Use

The University of Rizal System (URS) in consonance with the objective of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the national government to render the land and physical assets of HEIs to be holistically developed in the lens of strategic growth and development proposed the URS Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP).

This project will be in charge of assessing, identifying, studying across disciplines, envisioning, designing, and compiling the efficient use of the physical resources of the University as it aims to pursue excellence in its four-fold functions such as instruction, research, extension and production services. Through this, URS will be informed of all the dimensions in sustainable land use and development in the context of its mandate to deliver higher level of education, innovative research studies, life-changing community engagement and stable production activities.

The project calls for technical, socio-economic and cultural surveys and studies. The technical surveys and studies consist of land survey, classification and mapping, and infrastructure inventory, status reporting and developmental planning. The socio-economic surveys and studies likewise include the conduct of feasibility studies and financial planning with respect to the envisioned development plans in the next 10 years. Lastly, cultural surveys and studies entail a closer analysis of the role of the university in the protection of the indigenous peoples (IPs) and their culture and tradition.

Project LUDIP will set the strategic direction of all the physical developments to be constructed and/or implemented in the next decade. This will enable the University to look into its own development focus and allocate resources to meet the development needs of URS as an institution of premier higher learning in the region. Finally, this project will provide an opportunity for URS to rethink of its role not only as an academic institution but as an active technical, socio-economic and cultural member of the larger community.
