Youth Empowerment Through Work, Service: URST Completes CFW Program

The University of Rizal System–Tanay Campus announces the completion of the Cash-for-Work (CFW) Program under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) initiative. Implemented for Fiscal Year 2025, this program was designed to provide temporary employment and promote career development among college graduates and students for Academic Year 2023–2025.

Before deployment, the KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) initiated preparatory activities, including an orientation facilitated by the DSWD Regional Team in coordination with identified Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

At URS-Tanay, a total of 40 beneficiaries participated in the program—7 graduates assigned for a 50-day engagement and 33 students for 25 days. These participants were deployed across various university offices, where they rendered administrative and support services. More than a short-term employment initiative, the CFW Program served as a platform to enrich the participants’ understanding of real-world workplace settings.

Throughout their assignment, beneficiaries gained hands-on experience in professional routines such as document handling, communication with university personnel, and coordination of daily office operations. These tasks cultivated core work values including time management, discipline, adaptability, and teamwork.

“This program helped me not only financially but also mentally. I gained confidence, learned how to work with others, and saw how important even small tasks can be in a workplace,” shared one student.

Another student added, “Thankful ako sa CFW Program dahil nabigyan kami ng chance na magkaroon ng work experience kahit na estudyante pa lang kami.”

The program’s impact extends far beyond temporary financial support. It provided an early gateway for participants to explore public service, understand workplace expectations, and prepare for long-term professional growth. In a time when youth employment opportunities remain highly competitive, programs like CFW offer both support and direction to aspiring professionals.

The University of Rizal System–Tanay Campus expresses its deep appreciation to the DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS and the Regional Project Management Office for their continued partnership and trust in empowering the youth through education, service, and meaningful work experience.

A similar program is likewise held across all the URS campuses. ~ MCL
