The University of Rizal System (URS) elected its new student federation officers in a meeting held at Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Tanghalang Sining (EARTS), URS Morong Campus, on October 9.
Christian Misolas from Rodriguez Campus triumphed over other nominees to become the new President of the URS Supreme Student Government (USSG) federation.
In his first message as president of the USSG federation, Misolas emphasized that willingness and passion can help overcome all challenges.
Prof. Ruby San Juan, Director of the Office of Student Development Services (OSDS), introduced the newly elected officers with Christian Misolas from the URS Rodriguez Campus as president; John Joshua Arcilla and Mhel Jayson Serapion from Antipolo City and Taytay, as internal and external vice-presidents, respectively; Jundy Corpus from Binangonan as general secretary; Kate Louise Matematico and Gabriel Mateo from Morong and Pililla, respectively, as deputy secretaries; Jamie Faye Basmayor from Tanay as treasurer; Justin Lorrenz Ceñido from Binangonan as auditor; and, Madeen Francisco and Neil Tristan Gomez from Cainta and Cardona, respectively, as public relations officers.
Meanwhile, outgoing USSG Federation President Kate Louise Matematico delivered a farewell message, thanking her fellow outgoing officers and the URS community for their support during her term.
Dr. Nancy Pascual, URS President, led the oath-taking and induction ceremonies for the newly elected officers. She also shared plans for the betterment of the University, including the addition of electrical fans, classrooms, and even an ID scanning system across the campuses.
Shortly after, Dr. Allan Conde, Vice President for Academic Affairs, highlighted the role of the student federation as the bridge between the administration and the Board of Regents, the University’s highest governing body. Dr. Conde also mentioned that while student leadership may be seen as prestigious, the responsibility and challenges of the role are often overlooked.
Prof. Jonathan Luris, head of the Student Organization Unit, concluded the event by reminding that leadership is not just a title, it is about service, honesty, and the courage to serve.
