The 8th STRASUC Culture and the Arts Festival is in full swing as 12 state universities and colleges (SUCs) from across the region compete in 17 contests that showcase their students’ creativity, talent, and cultural pride.
These SUCs are Batangas State University (BatSU), Cavite State University (CavSU), Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), Marinduque State University (MSU), Mindoro State University (MinSU), Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC), Palawan State University (PSU), Romblon State University (RSU), Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB), University of Rizal System (URS), and Western Philippines University (WPU).
The festival, known for celebrating participating institutions’ rich diversity and artistic excellence, features competitions across various categories, including visual arts, music, theater, dance, and a pageant. More specifically, these categories are comprised of 17 contests: charcoal rendering, pencil drawing, on-the-spot poster making, painting, photography, pop solo & duet, live band competition, instrumental solo-piano, kundiman, instrumental solo-bandurria, instrumental solo-guitar, instrumental solo-violin, short and sweet play, radio drama, folk dance, contemporary dance and street dance, and festival king and queen.
The contest chairpersons are Prof. Wahinee Cruzada, Prof. Ruff John Florendo, Prof. Janice Hilao, Prof. Albert Clemente, Prof. Joselito Dacumos, Dr. Norberto Nataño, Prof. Maria Cecilia Villegas, Dr. Ariel M. Plantilla, Prof. Fernan Natividad, and Dr. J Lover Trinidad, respectively. The contest headmasters are Dir. Roselie Gonzales, Dir. Ruby Ann Lantita, Dr. Mary Grace Jagmis, Dr. Edward Andrecio, Dir. Victor Francia, Dir. Kristine Joy Sierra, Engr. Dexter Tanabe, Dir. Mark Emanuel Magsino, Dr. Mary Jane Arboleda, Dir. Vir Marilag, and Dr. Angelito Quiñones, Jr., respectively.
These contests either bring the students’ collective efforts and passion or allow each to express his or her unique skills and perspectives. // JLG
