The STRASUC Culture and the Arts Festival 2024 officially commenced on November 26 at the University of Rizal System – Morong Campus (URSM).
The opening program began with the entrance of STRASUC delegates and colors, setting a vibrant and ceremonial tone for the event. Dr. Niclie Tiratira, campus director of URSM, welcomed participants, emphasizing the significance of this cultural convergence. This was followed by a roll call of delegates led by Dr. Angelito Quiñones, Jr., president of ACADC R-IV, Inc.
Dr. Nancy Pascual, president of URS, delivered an inspiring message and officially declared the festival open. The audience was then treated to a spectacular opening salvo by the URSM Inrayog De Moro, URS Hiyas ng Rizal Dance Troupe, and University Center for Culture and the Arts (UCCA) singers, showcasing the rich artistry and traditions of the region.
Two keynote speakers graced the event, bringing dynamic and enriching dimensions. Dr. Marita Canapi, commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), addressed the academe, highlighting the role of cultural education in fostering innovation and identity. Mr. Nemesio Miranda, Jr., a renowned Filipino painter and sculptor, delivered a keynote on the significance of culture and the arts in shaping society.
The program also featured greetings from distinguished guests, including Hon. Nina Ricci Ynares, governor of Rizal; Hon. Emigdio “Dino” Tanjuatco III, representative of the 2nd District of Rizal; Hon. Sidney Soriano, mayor of Morong, Rizal; and Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, president of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).
One of the program highlights was the presentation of the Festival King and Queen 2024 candidates, celebrating the youthful spirit and talent of the participants. The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Allan Conde, vice president for Academic Affairs of URS, leaving the audience energized and inspired.
As the STRASUC-CAF 2024 unfolded, participants and spectators alike look forward to days of rich cultural exchange, artistic excellence, and camaraderie under the banner of unity and creativity. // JFA, ABC
