Student journalists and their faculty coaches from the University of Rizal System (URS) received recognition at the 20th Luzon-wide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC), held from April 2-4 at Batis Aramin Hotel and Resort. The event, themed “PRESS PLAY: Campus Journalists as Game Changers in Digital Revolution,” celebrated excellence in campus journalism across Luzon.
Several URS student scribes demonstrated their talent and journalistic prowess, securing top spots in various individual and group categories: Jubail de Lumen from URS-Binangonan clinched 1st place in News Writing in English, showcasing exceptional skill in reporting and crafting compelling news stories. Cameille Orte-ga from URS-Morong earned 7th place in Editorial Writing in Filipino, highlighting her ability to articulate insightful opinions and analyses. John Kenneth Letrodo from URS-Angono achieved 3rd place in Literary Graphics in English, demonstrating creativity in visual storytelling. Roy Gabriel Urminita from URS-Tanay also excelled in Literary Graphics in English, placing 7th in the same category. Meanwhile, Le Pilier, the student publication from URSB, was recognized for its outstanding design, securing 5th place for Best Cover Design in the Magazine category.
Beyond the student achievements, the LHEPC also honored the invaluable contributions of faculty coaches who have dedicated years to nurturing aspiring journalists. Service Awards were presented to: Prof. Arminda Campo of URS-Morong, for 15 years of dedicated service; Dr. Shielanie Dacumos, URS-Binangonan, 15 years; Prof. Violeta Esperanza, URS-Tanay, 15 years; and Dr. Norberto Nataño, URS-Antipolo, 10 years. Their long-standing commitment underscores the vital role of mentorship in shaping the future of campus journalism.
