7th GROW Seminar Highlights Oral Comm Skills

Morong, Rizal – The University of Rizal System (URS) continued the 7th installment of the Getting Revitalized on Work (GROW) seminar series. Held under the theme “Revitalizing Service Delivery for a Better Client Experience,” the Office of Public Affairs organized the event in collaboration with the Extension Services Unit, which had 25 onsite and 167 online participants.

The seminar, which focused on Levelling up Oral Communication and Hosting Skills, took place at the Audio-visual Education Center (AVEC), URS – Morong, to improve communication and facilitation techniques for URS staff and faculty.

Dr. Marites Rio, Vice President for Research Development, Extension, and Production, delivered the welcome remarks, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and skills enhancement in service delivery.

Dr. Nancy Pascual, University President, shared an inspiring message, encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve their interactions with clients and stakeholders. “By mastering the art of oral communication and hosting, you will elevate your personal and professional influence, contributing to a more dynamic and inspiring URS community,” she added.

Prof. Renato Allen Casas, Jr. presented the seminar’s rationale, explaining the significance of the topics chosen for this series. According to Prof. Casas, effective communication and professional hosting skills are essential in delivering excellent service to clients within and outside the University.

The seminar featured two topics from distinguished speakers. The first topic, “Oral Communication: Techniques to Elevate Speaking Skills,” was delivered by Dr.

Jocelyn Gagalang, Director of the Office of Public Affairs. She shared practical tips and strategies for improving oral communication, followed by a hands-on workshop that allowed participants to apply their learned techniques.

The second topic, “The Art of Hosting: How to Elevate Event Facilitation Skills,” was presented by Atty. Jansen San Juan, Faculty of the College of Education and Campus Coordinator of Culture and the Arts, URS Morong. His session delved into the finer aspects of hosting and event facilitation, offering insights on engaging an audience and ensuring smooth program flow. This session also included a workshop where participants practiced their hosting skills in a simulated event environment.

During the break, Prof. Rosette Sevilla and Ms. Janelle Faulve facilitated the icebreaker guessing game featuring five questions and an energizing activity that kept the participants active and attentive.

The seminar concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Fe Esperanza Mateo, Director of the Extension Services Unit, who thanked the speakers and participants for their active involvement. She underscored the importance of the GROW series in fostering personal and professional growth within the university, making the audience feel valued and integral to the URS community’s development.
