The Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS-Psychology) program of URS Pililla Campus gathered multiple awards at the prestigious PsyConference 2024 with the theme “Expanding Social Awareness through the Lens of Psychology,” conducted via Zoom on January 26. This triumph is a testament to the outstanding achievements of 4th-year BS Psychology students under the mentorship of research adviser, Prof. Liezel Francisco, who was subsequently honored at the Lyceum Philippines University (LPU) – Batangas campus on February 22.
Notably, their journey to success began with clinching first place for the Societal Promise Award. The team included Rosenel Delgado, Paul Christian Aguanta, Kristine Mae Cruz, and Jeddalyn Mae Quilaton, who were accepted to present their research live at LPU.
In an interview, Delgado shared how nervous she was in competing because she was carrying the name of URSP; however, she was eager to do everything, taking the opportunity to showcase her capabilities in a research congress participated by other Psychology students from CALABARZON.
“Kaya nakakataba ng puso na nakakaiyak din. Gusto ko siyang ipagmalaki kasi grabeng achievement ito; hindi lang naman para sa sarili ko kundi para din sa professors ko and sa University since hindi rin naman kami makakaabot sa ganyang opportunity kung hindi dahil sa support nila sa amin,” Delgado added.
On the other hand, another team claimed the 3rd place for Best Paper. Jaelene Mercado, Klein Jermie Masikip, Zarene Ivienne Masinsin, and Jan Andrew Masinsin showcased their research excellence, contributing valuable insights to their field.
“What an incredible journey it has been, from the simple encouragement of Prof. Francisco to submit our research abstract to the overwhelming success of winning Overall 3rd place for Best Paper out of 17 groups at PsyConference. It’s a mix of emotions I never imagined,” Mercado expressed when asked about her experience at the event. She is also grateful for their adviser’s dedication, support, and hands-on guidance from day one. “Without her courage and belief in us, this opportunity and the success of our research paper wouldn’t have been possible.”
Moreover, the accolades continued with winning the 5th place for Best Paper. Jenny Macalinao, Foebie Ann Bermejo, Jaja Monique Altamirano, and Jolina Mae Asdolo added to the program’s success story, proving the depth of talent within the BS Psychology community.
Undeniably, these students’ research professor and thesis adviser, Prof. Francisco, is overwhelmed and grateful for this triumph.
“I have witnessed their dedication and innovative studies in their academic endeavors. The synergy between mentor and mentees fosters an environment where achievements are celebrated collectively,” Prof. Francisco stated.
“I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all the faculty members and staff who extended their support to our Psychology researchers: the administration, competent panel chairperson and members, those who served as questionnaire validators, the staff like our librarian and nurse, those who extended their benevolence financially, and those supportive parents, gratefulness weaves a bond that amplifies the success of the PsyConference 2024 participants,” she added, thanking everyone who played pivotal roles in this endeavor.
The laurels earned by the winners stand as a testament to the program’s commitment to excellence, highlighting not only the students’ perseverance and psychological research prowess but also the support from the University and guidance provided by their research adviser. This achievement underscores the program’s ongoing efforts to foster critical thinking, innovation, and societal impact within Psychology.
