An international partnership was established between the University of Rizal System, Philippines and Maejo University in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The online ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was held on July 19, 2023. It was graced by the URS President, Dr. Nancy T. Pascual, members of the Administrative Council, faculty, and staff. On part of Maejo University were Dr. Weerapon Thongma, Associate Professor and President, with other university officials.
The advent of new technology led to connecting these two academic institutions despite distance. This allows for exchange of knowledge and information through virtual platforms. The two universities will work together for faculty and students exchange visits, project consultation, conduct of training sessions and advocacies for extension/community development. URS has the mandate to extend services to the communities; hence, any activity that will support the people providing avenues for their development will be explored.
The partnership will build and strengthen capabilities of both faculty and students as well as of communities by sharing expertise, experiences, and best practices. The initial activity will be an Online Training Series on Interfacing Biological Sciences Principles in Sustainable Agricultural Production, with focus on Biotechnology Techniques, Food and Industrial Microbiology and Precision Agriculture in which certain topics will be identified under each area.
