Three BS – Biology students from the URS – Morong Campus made it to the First Virtual Regional Research and Development Students Congress sponsored by the Southern Tagalog Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research, Development and Extension Consortium (STAARRDEC).
The event is in recognition of the role of students in research and development in the research and development in the Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR) sector.
Through this Regional Student Congress, the students of the state universities and colleges (SUCs) member agencies competed for the best paper and poster in the research and development categories.
The University was represented by Myrrah Kaye Rioveros, Ronette Abarico, Eunica Borac and Novelle Villaluz, BS – Biology students. Their paper titled Mimicry-based Mosquito Trapping Device won the First Place in the Best Development Paper as well as the First Place in the Best Development Poster. Prof. Eugene Tia, professor and research adviser, coached the team.
The awarding ceremonies were held on August 25 via Zoom. The device is now being submitted to the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for application to a grant of invention patent.
An invention patent is a government-issued grant, bestowing an exclusive right to an inventor over a product or process that provides any technical solution to a problem in any field of human activity which is new, inventive, and industrially applicable. The Intellectual property Office (IPO) Unit of URS takes charge of the application. //
