SANRI Goes Extra Mile

Wondering how SANRI spells performance and productivity? The question served the inspiration as to how Prof. Jerry Esperanza, Head of SANRI together with the support of the different modular project leaders braved the necessary reframing of targets in the name of sustainable agriculture.

Through the Agro-Ecological Farming Project (AEF), the l

ove for Organic Farming is promoted through the conduct of research and technology development endeavors more particularly in producing agri-crops and in supporting food sustainability while protecting the natural environment.

Through the Beekeeping Project, the love for better understanding of bees and its by-products has been laud and is significantly creating a heightened interest in the market.  The project encourages a more immense drive for the conduct of research ventures on how varieties of bees could help nature becomes naturally rich and healthy.

Another interesting and promising project is the Modernization of Economic Thrust for Trichantera (METTRIC) which already has lined up potential products for development. While Prof. Rocan Pangan facilitates the conduct of a research relating to Trichantera as the main subject, potential partners already have manifested interest and support in view of exploring the potential of Trichantera through a series of research experimentation.

Urban Farming Project which is formerly “Juan Foods” project intends to address the ever-changing landscape and requirement of communities nowadays in the name of food demands.

The project encourages conduct of researches that will direct and promote increased food production despite the continuously decreasing size of farmlands and increasing urbanized areas.

Dr. Juan Abarro set the lead as he enjoined his family in setting up a backyard model for sustainable farming in a community in the municipality of Baras.                The different modular projects as spearheaded by the different project leaders have undoubtedly played a sound kick-start which in a way or two makes the Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Institute (SANRI) go extra mile in terms of directing advocacies in the name of sustainable farming.

Apart from the modular projects, SANRI successfully championed a series of Agri-Talk with Juan: Food for Thought Webinar Series during the first 2 quarters of 2021 while the third and fourth quarters of the same year were also blessed with a number of learning opportunities through the series of Agri-Eskwela: Promoting Technology and Innovation Trends Towards Effective Philippine Agriculture Webinar series which benefitted clusters of beneficiaries from faculty, students, farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs LGUs and other stakeholders in the different service areas of the University.

Specified below are the details of the various Webinars which were hosted by SANRI for the whole of 2021.

These advocacies in the form of “education-on-air”  evidently spell how SANRI go the extra mile in bridging breakthroughs that are truly beneficial and practical for people to learn and understand. President Nancy T. Pascual and VP Marites M. Rio of Research and Development, Extension and Production together with VP Allan E. Conde and VP Renato De Lemon commend the dedication and commitment of the prime movers of SANRI.
