GAD-sponsored Webinars accentuated

It is an undeniable fact that Gender and Development mainstreaming is a considerable global major strategy where men and women share the opportunity for equal participation in influencing what is valued in shaping options within society.  It is in consideration of that context that Dr. Wilhelmina P. Masinsin, the GAD champion of URS and the CALABARZON pushed in great vitality the conduct of innumerable GAD advocacy projects in partnership with a number of stakeholders.

It was early September 2020 when a series of GAD-sponsored Webinars accentuated how life can be beautifully made strong and meaningfully lived by people of all ages.

With the Webinar on Gender-Responsive Higher Education Institution which pioneered the theme “URS Strengthening Gender-Responsive Practices in Education”, participants were enlightened on how to eliminate discriminatory practices in learning institutions. The expert sharing of Prof Marita Pimentel, an independent GAD Consultant and Dr. Nelson S. Gonzales, URS GAD Committee Coordinator helped set the tone for everyone in the University to inspire and serve as light in reshaping how people should think and incorporate gender sensitivity in the heart of all government’s plans, programs, and activities.

It was followed closely by a Webinar that distinctly highlighted the Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) and Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of URS on Anti-Sexual Harassment (SH) Act which was highly appreciated by the 1,256 documented participants with a good number from the list who understood and noted that the topic shared by Dr. Winnie Masinsin and Mr. Jansen San Juan served them the necessary inspiration and confidence in ensuring learning environments that are safe, empowering, and preventing gender-based violence. The event happened on September 9, 2020.

A sequel event last October 2, 2020, a Webinar on LGBTQI++ Rights and Concerns directed the 1,124 participants’ level of awareness as to how the present community of people should regard the LGBTQI people as they occupy public arena in the showcase of their fair share in education, commerce, and other fields contributory to the realm of productivity and operational excellence both in private and public sectoral communities.

The resource speakers in the persons of Dr. Erico Habijan, President Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina and Mr. Jeron Osiana,  Certified DOH HIV/AIDS Educator and Counselor repeatedly pointed out and challenged everyone to live life to the fullest and to stay focus on the positive.  Indeed, GAD knows how to continually serve in the context of reshaping a better world despite the Pandemic situation.

On October 9 and 16, 2020, a Webshop on Gender-Sensitive Research and Gender-Responsive Extension Service primed learning opportunities and bolstered understanding of most GAD advocates relative to  Gender-sensitive research; engendering research with gender analysis; and gender-sensitive research as the basis for gender-responsive extension service.

Director Niclie L. Tiratira underscored the importance of mainstreaming the gender perspectives in all initiatives and targets of the University particularly in the conduct of GAD-related researches. She cited that the Gender and Development approach has been gaining increasing prominence and attraction among researchers across disciplines elsewhere in the globe. She added, “It is but right that URS serves a jumpstart in underpinning GAD-related researches”.

Vice-President Marites M. Rio commended Dr. Masinsin and the whole of the GAD advocates of the University for a truly timely and sensible Webshop which in many ways promoted gender perspective in addressing issues in various fields through the conduct of GAD-related researches.

As Dr. Winnie Masinsin believes that people of all ages should continually learn, there is no stopping for her GAD Team in  sharing avenues where people from within and outside the University could continually learn to support organizational goals in a commendable curve. The last quarter of 2020 still made a truly sound bang with the following GAD-inspired Webinars.

The following are the other GAD-related activities organized by the unit:
