Extension Units Spearhead Activities to Harness Information Education

The URS RDEP-Extension Services Unit continued reaching out to community beneficiaries in 2021 as it is true to its commitment to render extension-related services.

The extension projects implemented along the thrusts such as poverty alleviation, food production and safety, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship and ecotourism, environmental preservation and protection, social equity, gender and development were all regarded by the beneficiaries as worthy undertakings. The extension project teams served information education through conduct of webinars and distribution of printed materials. They also spearheaded the trainings focused on the use of online platforms, crafting of business plan, other sources of revenue and resources conservation among others. The projects were also presented in regional, national and international conferences which allowed for the sharing of best practices.

Moreover, a series of online literacy activities dubbed as OUTREACH: Opportunities for the Champions of Community Development (Part I) were carried out. This aims to capacitate the stakeholders on specific areas of concern; develop enhanced commitment of stakeholders in community development works, and; strengthen collaborations among partner agencies.

The focus were on the Delivery of Information and Technology Services in the Province of Rizal, Basic Video Editing and Online Streaming, Sound and Safe Rice Farming Practices, SMEs Product Branding and Marketing Opportunities, Psychological Intervention Using Katatagan Module, African Swine Fever: Realities and Challenges, Capacitating Communities Towards Disaster Resiliency, Water Conservation and Agricultural Productivity, University of Rizal System Products and Services: Providing Opportunities Toward Technology Adoption, Potential Business Ventures and Livelihood Options for Pandemic and Post-Pandemic Times. Participants were from the various sectors such as the industry, academe, religious, agriculture and local governments.

The never-ending commitment of the university to extension services intends to inspire more people and offer them with prospects in the various aspects of life. Thus, the unit’s efforts coupled with the hard works of all the faculty extension project implementers and the untiring support of the partner organizations and beneficiaries have made 2021 another successful year for the University of Rizal System in terms of carrying out one of its mandates.

Dr. Fe Esperanza T. Mateo, Director for Extension Services guided and supported by Dr. Nancy T. Pascual, University President and Dr. Marites M. Rio, VP for RDEP commits to continually provide ways to reach out to communities. Similarly, the Extension Services Champions and Campus Heads in the persons of Prof Anniversary M.
