Evergreens of EEBRC

As most millennials would say, “Life is lifer” when people remain to walk with love and care no matter what the situation is. It is true enough in nature’s economy that, the currency is not money but life.

It is in the consideration of the said perspective that Engr. Maribeth Esteva, Head of the Environmental Education and Biodiversity Research Center held the fort to spearhead a number of advocacy projects that will drive people and every stakeholder of the university in reviving their love and care for Mother Earth.

After the conduct of the necessary EEBRC Orientation drive among the students of the University, a series of Webinar has been staged such as the Webinar on Climate change and Depletion of stratospheric ozone caused by greenhouse gasses emission from human activities with a Planning Development Officer and licensed urban/ environmental planner in the person of ENP. Jhonel Siarez served as the resource speaker last October 9, 2020, via the Online platform. It was participated by 407 students and other stakeholders.  The said Webinar was fortified by the Webinar on Status of protected Area in the Province of Rizal which was held last October 30, 2020, with Ms. Jennifer V. Cruz,  and Ms. Mary Jane Obieta, Forest Technician I from Pamintinan Protected Landscape and Hinulugang Taktak Protected Landscape respectively, Forester Aida Ceniza, Ecosystem Management Specialist from Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape and Mr. Joseph B. Calinog from Kaliwa Watershed Forest Reserve.

EEBRC also tossed the conduct of the 7th Annual University Environmental Week celebration with the theme “Celebrating Nature’s Biodiversity Amidst Global Pandemic“  last November 23-27, 2020.  The event staged various competitions where winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes while all the participants and coaches from all campuses were also issued certificates of Appreciation during the Awarding and Closing Ceremony last November 27, 2020. It was at that particular event that Dr. Marites M. Rio, Vice-President for RDED commended the united efforts of the people of the University in the renewal of sensible concerns and stewardship for people and nature to be of complementation. She parked her thoughts by enjoining everyone to reflect; that there is always an incredible value in ourselves and that everyone can share to mend broken pieces of a dream; and heal a wounded heart and solitary lives and make nature regain its grace to inspire healing.

As EEBRC heads its way to promote environmental stewardship, Engr Beth Esteva links continually with counterparts from external organizations like DENR both in the Provincial and CALABARZON level and The Philippine Eagle Foundation towards strengthened partnership in the nurturance of the natural environment.

Part of the push for EEBRC to sustain nature at its best is through the conduct of multidisciplinary research titled “Environmental Assessment Study of a Community Managed Micro-Hydro Power Projects in Brgy. Cayabu, Tanay, Rizal”. The research is geared towards inspiring hope and source of living among the indigenous people/ residents in the area.
